Social (Media) Butterfly is about to hatch for @va_newspapers superheroes party Saturday in #Rke …

My wings and glitter are ready to go.

How’s your superhero persona coming along?

We have a few ideas if you need some help …

THE FOIA-LER: Look out, crook. Your corruption scheme will be FOI(A)LED!

SHUTTER BUG: You will shudder as her monster flash blinds you!

*THE* RED PEN: Yes, that’s THE Red Pen, Megan points out. I’ve been marked.

NUT GRAF: Spreading context wherever he goes! We nominate Brian Kelley.

AP STYLE MAVEN: *Hopefully* you won’t cross her.

Or maybe you prefer a villain?

FAIL WHALE: Foiling tweets most every day

M.I.A.: The PR flack we most dread

Also, a funny story …

I tweeted about our superheroes party and got a response from Bob Stepno, a journalism prof at Radford.

Apparently he teaches a class (and launched an entire blog, www.jheroes.com) about journalists as superheroes.

The class is titled: Journalists in Film, Fiction and Popular Culture

From the description:

“While this blog and podcast, ‘jheroes.com: Newspaper Heroes on the Air,’ focuses on radio portrayals of journalists, the course will cover all forms of popular culture — from Broadway plays and Hollywood movies to short stories, novels, comic books, and maybe even a song or two.”

Stepno’s archived clips of old radio broadcasts from 30s/40s all over his blog …

And I had no idea the Green Hornet was a reporter, too?!?

“Superheroes of Journalism” party (following VPA awards dinner)
When:
10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday
Where: Lower level of Hotel Roanoke
Cheers: Two kegs of free beer (purchased by the sponsoring newspapers) to enjoy and a cash bar for anyone who wants wine or soft drinks

Reminder: Tuesday Twitter Talk is set for noon Tuesday, April 24, in the news conference room.

The April 24 brownbag/roundtable will be a time to talk amongst ourselves, so we can share our Twitter tips with colleagues, ask questions, configure your phone, whatever. If you can’t make the talk in person, remember that we can teleconference with the bat phone.

BTW, I’m planning to make “Tuesday Talks” a regular gig for informal discussions, brainstorms, TED Talks broadcasts and other miscellaneous training opportunities, so feel free to share your ideas. Adding Storify to the list.

Finally: You can find the notes from our Bloggers Summit taped to the whiteboard in the newsroom (near stairwell). Video coming next week.
